Each weekly session begins with targeted, skill-specific pre-testing. This diagnostic period allows the instructor to immediately assess prior knowledge and calibrate the week's lessons to either provide necessary scaffolding or advanced enrichment.
- Diagnostic Pre-Tests (30 min): Assessment of 20 high-utility vocabulary words (definitions and spelling) and 5 math problems over a specific, targeted skill.
- Literacy & ELA (30-45 min): Provide concrete examples of the weekly vocabulary and introduce a complex short story to explore technical elements highlighting the week's ELA topic.
- Math (30-45 min): Introduce the week's math skill and begin guided practice.
- Science or Social Studies (15-30 min): Provide technical or conceptual overview of topic.
Practicum: Students are assigned work at the end of the session to be completed at home throughout the week, inclduing practice for: the weekly vocabulary, grammar rule, math topic, and a reading passage with a formal essay response, due every Friday. Students are also expected to practice factor fluency until mastered and read an engaging, fun, skill-appropriate book for at least 20 minutes per day.
Wednesday shifts from introduction to active execution. Students move beyond the basics into a deeper, more rigorous application of the week’s core topics.
- Analytical Reading & Writing (60 min): Students engage in structured composition, moving from reading text to producing their own written analyses, arguments, or command of the liteary skill.
- Mathematics (30 min): A comprehensive dive into problem-solving, ensuring students can apply the weekly skill to multi-step, practical scenarios.
- Thematic Exploration (30 min): An in-depth investigation into the primary Science or Social Studies content introduced on Monday.
- Content Wrap-Up (90 min): The final session of the week focuses on synthesizing each content's weekly topic (about 30 minutes per content area). Students might complete problems on the SmartBoard, engage in academic competitions, or provide a brief presentation to the class.
- Mastery Testing (30 min): Post-test of the weekly vocabulary words, math skill(s), literacy skill(s), and the Science or Social Studies content.
- Accountability: Collection of all independent work and essay responses assigned Monday for professional review and meaningful feedback (returned to student's for review at the next Monday session).
